10 DIY Tips for Fall Home Maintenance

10/24/2017
10 DIY Fall Home Maintenance Tips

  1. Check batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. An easy way to remember this DIY task is to do it when the time changes for daylight savings.
  2. When you are done with your leaf cleanups make sure to clean and store all your warmer weather yard tools and equipment.
  3. Check windows and doors for air leaks and replace weather stripping as needed.
  4. After the leaves have fallen clean all your gutters and downspouts.
  5. Inspect your fireplace and chimney for any damage, vegetation growth, cracks, or other changes. Call a professional chimney sweep if you haven’t done that yet.
  6. Clean your ducts and replace your furnace filter. Call a professional for a thorough furnace cleaning if you haven't done that yet.
  7. Take a peek in your attic and look for any issues with the insulation and for any pest activity.
  8. Prune trees, shrubs, and remove dead branches from around your home.
  9. Take your cold weather tools and equipment out of storage and inspect them for damage or replacement needs.
  10. Check and refill/replace home fire extinguishers and first-aid kits.
